HOW TO SEND A SAMPLE
1. Prepare the sample (solid, liquid, pill, blotter). Mix well!
- Solid: Mix well, we need 10mg, about the size of a match head.
- Liquid: Mix well, we only need a few drops.
- Pill: You can include the whole pill or 10mg of crushed pill.
- Blotter: We need a quarter of a tab.
- We cannot test: organic samples, used supplies, drugs in food, substances present below 5% of the sample.
2. Put your sample into a ziplock bag. Seal well!
Capsules may break in the mail. Liquids may leak. Consider sealing in a small container instead.
3. Place in 2nd ziplock bag. Seal well! Place in 3rd. Seal well!
Triple bagging the sample prevents loss and protects postal workers from exposure.
Multiple samples? Please triple bag each sample. We need to be able to identify each sample, so they must be labelled uniquely. You need to keep track of your labelling to know which sample is which. We must be able to tell between similar looking substances. We suggest labelling your original samples with the labels used. Include a label written on paper or written on 2nd ziplock bag so we can deliver results based on your labelling. We recommend using A, B, C, D to identify samples.
4. Please provide a slip of paper with the following information or consider printing our handy sample slip. Include one for each substance and include them in your package.
Using our sample slip? Print it double sided. You can cut into 4 slips. You can cut the bottom of the slip to keep. This will help you track the date you mailed a sample or a code if used.
Not using our sample slip? Include the following information for each sample on a slip of paper:
- What the substance was sold to you as (unknown if unsure)
- Has this sample been tried? (yes, no, unsure)
- Where did you buy this substance? (include a city or anonymous if it’s private)
- Any unexpected effects, notes or information your sample(s)
- One of our acceptable forms of contact information. You must include either an email address, a phone number, or a code word.
Please write clearly. We recommend writing in clear capital letters. If we cannot read your writing, we may not be able to contact you.
If you forget or you do not include any contact information, please contact us. Your package will be put on hold and eventually disposed of unless contact information is provided.
5. Collect all triple bagged samples. Place in one envelope. Seal well and mail!
We recommend using a regular, padded envelope or padded Xpresspost envelope for mailing.
Please use Canada Post or Xpresspost. Do not use any other shipping services. Please do not select for any signature required.
Please ensure you weigh or measure your package. This will help you calculate your required postage. We reserve the right to refuse any package without adequate postage.

While our services are provided free of charge, we happily accept donations. Get Your Drugs Tested receives no government funding and is entirely subsidized by The Medicinal Cannabis Dispensary. Your donations can help us to maintain and expand our drug testing capacity.
(Making a donation does not grant samples any preference, all clients are treated equally.)

Cash donations: You can include a cash donation in your envelope if you wish.
By cheque: Cheque donations can paid to the order of Vancouver Harm Reduction Society.
What we do with your sample?
When mail arrives at our site, we will test it on a first come first served basis.
We can usually test samples the same day they arrive. If your sample will not be tested that day, we will contact you to let you know it has arrived. This will be from 778-819-0922 or [email protected]. If we do not contact you, it means your sample has not yet arrived.
Once your sample has been tested we will use your preferred form of contact to deliver results.
If you included a codeword only, we will not be able to contact you. In that case just keep checking the website for your result to show up.
If you are waiting on results, please be patient. Your package is most likely still in transit. We don’t have any problems with receiving samples in the mail and all samples are arriving safely.

- Please be sure to triple bag and seal all samples safely.
- If sending liquid be especially sure it is well-sealed.
- We cannot return anything by mail. All samples will be destroyed after testing.
- We will test all samples with the FTIR Spectrometer and a fentanyl test strip.
- All personal information is anonymous and confidential. We shred all documents and keep no personal records.
